A Year of Art, Week 28

So what's the mamma jammer deal with a year of art?

It's all about inspiration and a love of art. I create five pieces a week, one of which I'll show you how to do. This week's 'How To...' is a collection of watercolour beetles. I also get 'funny' with my favourite animal and self reflect, not to any sort of existential freak out, but drawing myself.

I'm taking my tasks from the fabulous artist and art author Lorna Scobie book.

Day 136

Task; Fill the page with colourful beetles.

Monday 27th of April

Nice and easy one today. I might have had a jar or two with Sunday dinner yesterday and when I say 'might' (I did) and when I say 'jar' I mean goblet and when I say Sunday dinner I mean, three packets of Wotsits and a packet of badly cooked super noodles.

Pencil Case Supplies

Watercolour Paper

Watercolours

A Brush

Colouring Pencils

Stage One

Dots! Paint oddly shaped, slightly weird looking dots. So easy to do even hungover Yorkshire lass in PJ's can do it.

Stage Two

More complex dots. Paint wings, and heads and butts and whatever you fancy. As you can tell we're not going for the most intricate and precise bug here, but looking for a cuter bug experience.

Stage Three

Stage three could also be called, 'pulling it back from the brink'. The colouring pencil is the savour of this art work. Adding patterns and cute little legs turns any 'phoned-in' dot into something that will elicit 'ahhhhs'.

There you have it, I only needed to lay down once during that whole process, which goes to show you anyone can do art. Anyone. Even hungover middle aged ladies who really should know better on a school night.

Day 137

Task: Doodle Page

Tuesday 28th of April

I was trying to go for a heart rainbow, but it turned out more like a rainbow vomit, which I don't hate.

Day 138

Task: Observe Your Reflection

Wednesday 29th of April

So at the risk of coming off as egotistical, I realised as I sat down to draw myself, I'd already pretty much drawn myself, a good few times. *Cough* six by the last count. So instead of falling into another hour of self-reflection, I'm going to pull together my best doodles, from over the years and make (completely not creepy.... you're creepy) Wall of Me. We've got, zombie me, mad bush hair me, me with the mutant President of District Mammon, and me with a metric ton of 'fucked-up' exploding out of my head, (personal fav).

Day 139

Task: Draw your favourite animal

Thursday 30th of April

Sometimes your Thursdays are a trash fire, of half-arsed emails and hard squints towards the weekend... But today I was harnessing my inner high achiever. I worked my To-Do List like one of those sad, overworked donkeys from the 'Save a donkey' appeals. Ticking off tasks left right and centre proving how God Damn ninja I am. I drew my favourite animal and turned it into a cute little comic strip. #EfficientMomo I have more of that sweet, sweet sweary comic strip action right here.

Day 140

Task: Create Leaves

Friday 31st of April

Bit of a fudge on this one, as I was on such a go-getting episode yesterday, I created this little masterpiece in between Hank and making space my bitch with my Saturn illustration, (coming tomorrow). I kept the leafs simple and the detail cute, because when I'm not obsessed with myself, I like to keep it real.

That's it folks

... Join me next Friday where I tackle our gassy solar star, socks, and the colour blue. Head on over to Twitter and tag me any arty creations you've made, I love to see how other people engage with the tasks. I'm also on the old Instagram but I tend to get confused and make all the kids embarrassed if I wander around in there too much.

If you can't wait until next week for more art, here is where it all began; Week 1.
